This is the first of CIPR GLG's freelance training events and is organised in conjunction with the CIPR Independent Practitioners Network and sponsored by Cision.
This event will look at the transition from payroll employed or contracted work to freelance, self-employed status. It will cover the challenges that this transition throws up and those presented by day-to-day freelance working.
The session will start with addresses from two freelance PR experts and coaches and will be followed by discussion groups, which will focus on a variety of sub-issues. There will then be time for questions and networking over drinks to finish. Refreshments will be provided.

Transition to freelancing, Getting set up, Common transition errors and how to avoid them, Invoicing and payment, Organising your work, Work life balance, New business and work pipeline, Co-working/collocation, Collaboration and use of external resources, Working direct for clients vs working via agencies.
The event will be worth 5 CPD points.
Ebony Gayle is an author, speaker and advocate for independence, entrepreneurship and helping others to escape the rat race and follow their dreams. She is an accredited PR and communications specialist, with well over a 15 years' experience advising, overseeing and implementing PR and marketing communication strategies and campaigns for clients. She has worked across a variety of industries including, entrepreneurs, new start-ups, health and social care, fitness, food & leisure, education and entertainment.
Ebony previously worked in-house where she headed up a PR team, before starting her own business and founded Ebony Gayle Communicationsworking as an independent consultant with clients in the UK and abroad. Ebony is the author of the no-nonsense self help guide – How to become a consultant: a guide to free yourself from the 9-5 and recently set up 9to5workrebels.com a platform to help unhappy professionals escape the 9-5 and follow their passion.
Ebony has previously worked as a radio producer and was a regular contributing writer and producer for the 5x award winning online magazine Inspire LS. She is a committee member for Women in PR UK and the co-founder of the CIPR’s independent and freelancers Network for PR and communication professionals.
Helen is a freelance consultant, coaching creative people and entrepreneurs. Across her 20-year career in PR and Marketing, Helen’s clients have included Confused.com, Disney, the Department for Work and Pensions, Thomas Cook, Sarah Beeny and Naked Wines. Prior to moving into coaching full-time, Helen set up and ran Tiny Rebel Brewery’s (first ever) marketing department. Helen’s headed up plenty of launches and events, worked at the BAFTAs and she's even dressed up as Wonder Woman and the Easter Bunny, all in the name of PR. She lives with her husband near Hay-on-Wye.
Helen has a degree in Media Production and a post-grad Diploma in PR. Helen is an ILM member and currently completing her ILM Level 5 Diploma in Coaching and Mentoring. She is also currently writing a book about freelancing for Business Expert Press in New York.
